Oakwood Golf Course

Situated in the East Valley, just outside the heart of Phoenix, the three 9-hole courses of Oakwood are considered a fan-favorite for those who love a fast game.

The Oakwood course is known for its three distinct (9-holes each) Keith Foster design & Forest Richardson renovation design - one parkland, one traditional link, and one navigating the lake.

  • Rules & USGA Guidelines
    • The new and improved rules will not only make playing the game easier to understand, but will also help speed up the pace of play, by allowing players to do things that previously were considered penalties. If you watched the PGA Tour on TV recently, you probably witness players putting with the flag stick in the hole, or holding golf balls just above their kneecaps when taking drops. One of the biggest rules changes will be the option of taking your ball and dropping it in the fairway after you have hit a shot OB (with a two shot penalty). This option will help speed up play and reduce some stress on the player. We have updated our Local Rules to reflect the changes that were made, and we hope that you will use the rules to help you play faster and better golf!

The Palms course begins with a short par four with multiple hazards off the tee.  Out of bounds right and two pot bunkers just off the fairway will have you aiming left of the tee.  A straight tee shot will give you a short approach to elevated and flat green.

The tee shot at the starting hole on the Sonoran nine requires accuracy and length. Aim left of the deep fairway bunker on the right. This will give you a good angle for your approach shot to this wide green.  There is a ridge in the middle of the green that will make a two-putt difficult.

The Sonoran at Oakwood

Course Description

Sonoran Course plays 5,138 yards at the forward tees to 6,567 yards at the tournament tees. The first nine holes wind through lush parkland and water features, while the last nine are played on a more traditional links-style course. The final hole is a par-5, 559-yard play that brings golfers back to the Oakwood Golf Shop.

Hole Desc

A dogleg right par five begins your round on the Lakes course. Keep your tee shot down the left side of the fairway to give you more options on your approach shot. The fairway turns slightly to the right as you get closer to this uphill green. A large bunker will save any errant approach shots from going into the penalty area. This two-tiered green slopes back to front and will be a challenging test to begin your round. Five is always a good score here.
