What are these Committees, and what should I know to get involved?

This week, we started a Committee education series. We chatted with the Unit Captain Co-chairs to find out what's great about being a Unit Captain and what it takes as far as time commitment to serve. We’d like you to see what they said, and maybe even get involved! If not with this Committee, maybe another one. Learn more.

We will be working with the Committee members to help us educate our homeowners about the importance of the various Committees and what it takes as far as a time commitment to serve.

• Fitness Advisory | Monthly, Monday before the HOA Board Meeting at 3:00pm in Fitness Studio B
• Communications Advisory (Quarterly) | January 12th at 9:00am in the Library
• Golf Advisory | Fourth Monday of the month at 3:00pm in the Library. There is NO Meeting in December.
• Lifestyle & Events | First Friday of each month at 9:00am in Stone & Barrel’s Alcove Room

  Stone and Barrel patio to be painted Sunday, January 7th, and Monday January 8th. Patio will be closed during this time.
• Fitness | Completed
• Arts & Crafts (Community Services and Accounting) | Wednesday, December 13th
  Painting the interior of the courtyard Thursday, December 14th. Arts and Craft Rooms will be available.
• Poolside | Monday, December 18th-20th
  Painting outside pool area including metal fence, exterior walls, and ramadas. Thursday, December 21st, through Saturday, December 23rd, the Poolside building painting will begin. An entrance to the building will always be available.
• Golf Pro Shop | December 26th-29th
  An entrance to the building will always be available.

In order to have the pool open and available for holiday visitors, we are painting the Oakwood pool area starting on Monday, December 18th, continuing through Wednesday, December 20th. It will be open on Thursday, December 21st. They will be painting the ramadas, fence, and walls within the pool area. This will allow for pool use over the holidays.

For the holidays, take the opportunity to relive some fun childhood holiday times by viewing a model train set up at the Oakwood Clubhouse! The Sun Lakes Model Railroad Club will be displaying a model railroad in the lobby of the Oakwood Clubhouse. It will be available for viewing on the following dates and times:

• Friday, December 15th, from 5:00pm-6:30pm
• Daily from Saturday, December 16th - Thursday, December 21st, from 11:00am-1:30pm and 5:00pm-6:30pm
• Friday, December 22nd, from 11:00am-1:30pm

Bring the grandkids or just the kid in you to see the trains run!

The Sun Lakes Model Railroad Club is an all-scales model railroad club that consists of Sun Lakes and local area expert modelers.

The 2024 Phoenix Open is in need of additional volunteers. The tournament runs Monday, February 5th, through Sunday, February 11th. Work the days you want. Duties include easy, low-level security (crowd observance). Shifts run 8:30am to 5:00pm. Work is in the Greenskeepers area on the 18th fairway adjacent to the Thunderbirds tent. Golf hat, meals, and breaks are included. There is no cost to participate. It truly is a lot of fun! Carpooling to be arranged. This event over this past weekend was a huge success. Hundreds of neighbors enjoyed the music, the lights, and the various holiday displays. We will keep you posted on the Food Drive and fundraising portion of the event. Food will continue to be collected through January 2nd, so the next time you are at the store, buy a few extra pantry items for this worthy cause. Collection boxes are at the Oakwood Clubhouse entrance.

5-year-old Sugar Pie is a 19-pound Miniature Poodle. This sweet girl was brought to an emergency animal clinic by a good Samaritan after they had found her as an injured stray. While at the emergency animal clinic, their team had to shave her due to such severe matting. After our field team picked her up, she was transferred to our Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Our Trauma Hospital team discovered she had possibly been hit by a car as she had multiple lacerations and a bit of lameness when she walked. After some X-Rays and wound treatment, she was cleared for adoption! Sugar Pie is a kindred spirit who appreciates the joy of a good adventure but also the quiet moments of companionship.
