COMMUNITY UPDATES

Cox Communications is Coming to IronOaks

The Board recently signed an agreement with Cox Communications to provide residential video, local and long-distance telephone service, high speed internet service, home security, and home automation service. In the upcoming weeks, we will be providing our residents with timelines and additional information on services.  Infrastructure work will begin, and then our homeowners will be able to sign up for the various services in approximately one year. We appreciate everyone’s patience in getting another service provider into our community.

The Arizona Corporate Commission and Area Codes

Area codes 480, 520, and 928 should begin dialing area codes with the phone numbers beginning this weekend before the transition is permanent starting October 24th. Calls made after that date that do not include area codes may not go through, officials said.

Clean and Crack Seal

Cleaning and crack sealing is a process to clean debris out of the street cracks and to seal them, preventing expansion of the crack. Streets will not be closed during this process, and the material used to seal the cracks becomes dry and able to be driven on within seconds.

Beginning October 11th, the following units throughout the community will be sealed in the timeframes shown:

  • Units 36, 36A 36B and 36C | October 11th - 13th (Blue on the map below)
  • Units 38 and 39 | October 14th - 19th (Orange on the map below)
  • Units 40 and 40A | October 20th (Green on the map below)
  • Units 37 and 46A | October 21st - 22nd (Red on the map below)
  • Units 27, 27A, 27B, 28 and 28A | October 25th - 27th (Purple on the map below)

Check out the map! (PDF)

Please note: Timing and units may be adjusted due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. We appreciate your patience during this process. Please be cautious of the trucks and men working during this time.

Mosquitos

While Arizona leads the country with 97 out of a total 479 West Nile disease cases nationwide, 83 cases have been found in Colorado this year, 48 in California, 38 in Nebraska, 26 in South Dakota, and 22 in North Dakota. CDC figures indicate that the situation is not worse than last year, when 664 cases and 52 deaths were reported across the country.

West Nile Virus is transmitted to humans through a mosquito bite (although most mosquitoes do not carry the disease). Mosquitoes get the virus when they bite an infected bird. Crows and jays are the most common birds linked to the virus, according to John Hopkins Medicine, but at least 110 other bird species also carry the virus. Some good news: it cannot be passed from one human to another, as with COVID-19; but there is no treatment or vaccine.

IronOaks is taking steps to keep the threat at bay. We are spraying around lakes and wet areas with OneGuard, which has NyGuard in it. These chemicals disrupt the life cycle of the mosquito and reduce egg production, leading to sterile adults and death. We have also contact Maricopa County for fogging information. We will keep you posted once we know more on this.

We encourage you to take steps to prevent a bite when you are outside:

  • Use insect repellent with an active ingredient such as DEET, oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE), or Para-menthane-diol (PMD).
  • Wear long sleeves and long pants.
  • Control mosquitos around your home by not allowing standing water in containers or in your yard, and repair window screens to avoid an entry point for the pest.

Service Animals and Pet Access to IronOaks Community Buildings

Pets and any animal not considered a service animal under the ADA are not permitted in the Community Facilities. This includes restaurants, golf shops, clubhouses, art rooms, card player rooms, meeting rooms, etc.

  • Where pets are permitted on the community grounds, they must be on a leash and under control.  Service and assistance animals are allowed anywhere the animal's handler may go.
  • Service animals must be under the control of the handler at all times.
  • Handlers/residents are responsible for damage caused by an animal owned by the resident or under the control of the resident.

Rules on service animals and an explanation of the federal and state law regarding service animals, comfort animals, therapy animals, and pets can be found here.

Shop with a Cop

The Arizona Rangers-Sun Lakes Company is stepping up this holiday season to ensure children in the surrounding Sun Lakes communities do not go without holiday gifts this season - and they're asking for our help.

The Sun Lakes Rangers will be sponsoring several underprivileged children and young adults in partnership with the non-profit organization AZLEOS (Azleos.org) to ensure they wake up with holiday smiles on their faces.

Sponsoring a child costs approximately $100, and the Sun Lakes Rangers would like to raise enough money to sponsor at least 10 children and young adults. If you are able to assist, please send your check payable to:

Arizona Rangers- Sun Lakes Company
PO Box 12090
Chandler, AZ 85248

In the information / memo line, add "Shop with a Cop."

If you know someone who is struggling, and you'd like to submit their information to participate in this program, please contact Lieutenant Roy Stanifer via email.

All donations are tax deductible.

Trash and Recycling

It can be confusing, but here is a quick guide to help you determine if something should be recycled. If your item is not on the list, please place it in your regular trash container.

Comment Card Overview

We had a total of twenty six comment cards: three were positive, one was negative, and twenty-two were neutral. In summary, many comments came in regarding mosquitos and the concern over West Nile Virus, as well as streetlights and fountain issues. Trash also continues to be a topic. The negative comment came in for the condition and cleanliness of the Stone & Barrel patio. Ending on a positive note, we had a compliment for the southwest scramble, for golf’s Par 3 tournament, and Barbara in the Golf Shop received a "job well done" compliment.

If you have a landscaping request or comment, please feel free to fill out a comment card, here.

DEPARTMENT UPDATES

Architecture & Landscape Department (ALD)

New revisions to the ALC guidelines are posted for review. View them here. (PDF)

Gates Operations

Gates are still being worked on and are working well intermittently.  Please be patient if you are behind someone struggling with their gate device. We are finding the newer car sticker devices and handheld cards to be not as reliable.

Be kind, and if necessary, you may want to assist them with your own card if they are fellow residents.
