Crystal Award Nominations

Crystal Awards are granted each year to volunteers in the Sun Lakes community who demonstrate their dedication to the well-being of our residents.

Do you know someone who tirelessly gives of themselves?  Is there someone you know who is always there when anyone needs them?  Are they involved in homeowner association committees?  Do they volunteer for one or more of the many organizations located in our community?  Maybe they were instrumental in a specific initiative within your community. We’d like to know about them!

Beginning Monday, October 17th, the nomination forms will be available online. You may also pick up a nomination form at the Oakwood Clubhouse. Nominations open Tuesday, November 1st.

Take this opportunity to nominate a homeowner who does so much for others in Sun Lakes. Forms are due no later than Friday, December 2nd.

Fitness Insurance Benefits For 2023

It’s that time of the year when health insurance companies may be making changes to their insurance plans regarding Medicare. Open enrollment for Medicare Advantage Plans and Medicare Supplemental Plans runs from October 15th through December 7th, 2022. Coverage begins on January 1st, 2023.

For 2023, the IronOaks Fitness Center will be working with the following healthy-aging programs that are provided through various insurance companies:

  • Renew Active®/One Pass® (UnitedHealthcare)
  • Silver&Fit® (Cigna/Blue Cross and Blue Shield AZ)
  • SilverSneakers® (Humana and Aetna Advantage Plans)

The above is not a complete list of participating insurance companies. To ensure that you get the correct information regarding the fitness benefits for your plan, please call the customer service number on the back of your health insurance ID card.

If you are new to an insurance-provided membership, please come into the Fitness Center to complete registration and waiver forms and provide a copy of your health insurance card. After your eligibility is verified, you will receive a regular fitness membership for use of the gym, lap pool, and the group fitness classes listed on the monthly schedule. Racquet memberships are an additional fee.

If you change insurance plans for next year and are currently an insurance member, please let us know, as this could affect your eligibility for a program. You may need to fill out new forms to ensure your enrollment at this facility. If you have questions about this, please call Cindy DeMaght at 480.317.3657.

Safety On Our Streets

Many of our homeowners share the streets with automobiles, bikers, golf carts, etc. Let’s all do our part to stay safe:

  • Walk facing traffic.
  • Wear light or reflective type clothing.
  • Be aware as you walk.
  • Limit your phone use while walking, keep your eyes alert.

Bikers:

  • Ride with traffic.
  • Be prepared to cautiously move to the left to avoid a walker or golf cart.
  • Wear light colored clothing or equiptment you or your bike with reflective strips to be more visible.

Golf Carts/Automobiles:

  • It is a violation to exceed the speed limits within the Association.
  • Speed limits are 25mph unless otherwise posted. The speed limit on E. J. Robson Blvd. and Sun Lakes Blvd. is posted 35mph.
  • Stay alert and keep your eyes on the road.

Remember to obey stop signs and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Technology and Safety

In this world of technology, everyone needs to be aware of possible danger.

If you’ve ever lost your luggage, you've probably wished there was some way you could track it without having to rely on the airlines to find it for you. Apple Air Tags have made this possible. These small devices can be inserted into your luggage, and through Bluetooth technology, they send a signal to the Cloud allowing you through your “Find My” network on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to see the location of your missing luggage. Air Tags are light and portable giving them the potential to be helpful, but they are also misused by criminals.

There are reports of Air Tags being dropped in a person’s purse, backpack, gym bag, or even cars, enabling criminals to track the person back to their home. Ladies, check your bags after a night out. For Apple device users, Apple has created a system to warn you if you are being tracked by an Air Tag not associated with you. After a day, you will receive a notification on your Apple device about an unknown Air Tag in the vicinity. If you are unable to find it, the Air Tag will begin chiming to assist you in finding it.

For more information, check out Apple’s Newsroom.
