Reimagining an IronOaks Fitness/Wellness Center with YOU in Mind

The Oakwood golf patio and Poolside interior renovation planning are well underway under the Master Plan. This article is the first in a series of three articles that will explore topics related to the next initiative to reimagine the IronOaks Fitness/Wellness Center.

Wellness as a Way of Life

One of the most desirable amenities in a 55+ community is a fitness center. In a 2021 survey of IronOaks homeowners, 74% of respondents indicated that the Fitness Center was an important factor in their home purchase decision. In the same survey, satisfaction with our Fitness Center was lower than desired for such an important amenity.

Community Service Remodel Update, RBA23-017

Work is just about completed in the Community Services Department, which houses Patrol and the Architecture and Landscape departments. We are still awaiting the new workstations that will added to the Ocotillo Room. This capital project was approved per RBA23-017.

  • Landscaping | The trim crew will be taking care of the landscape on the walking path through units 35, 36B, and 43.
  • Tree Trimming | The palm trees are still being trimmed and the crew will be focusing on the “trail heads” at the walking path next week. 90% of our 937 palm trees have been trimmed since the end of June!

Ironwood Golf Shop Remodel, RBA23-050

The Ironwood Golf Shop remodel is moving along quickly. The Shop has been completely emptied and work to remove the flooring and wall details has been completed. Painting and carpet are going in next.

Golf Driving Range Fence, RBA 23-035

Recently the driving range fence was replaced. This Reserve item was scheduled for replacement in 2023. With recommendations from the Golf Director, Eddy Renio, the fence height was increased to 16’ from 12’ and the different height areas are now the same height all the way across the fence.

Pickleball Lights, RBA23-018

Work has begun to light the Pickleball courts. This FACE fund project began in earnest on Wednesday, August 16th, with the drilling of holes for the lights and running of conduit. This project is expected to provide our players with three 50’-candles. The installation contractor, Musco Sports Lighting, specializes in the design and manufacturing of sports lighting solutions. Their system will provide superior lighting on the courts, pinpointing lights on the courts, not on the surrounding neighborhood.

San Tan Animal Rescue Needs Your Help

This rescue, also known as STAR, is a 501 (C)3 nonprofit charity. They are a no-kill organization whose mission is to rescue animals that have been abandoned, neglected, or otherwise placed in harm's way. They provide temporary housing for adoptable pets and promote and encourage responsible care including spaying, neutering, microchipping, and vaccinating before the pet goes to its new home. All pets are fostered in private homes. Check out their “wish list," shop, and bring items to the Oakwood Clubhouse Lobby.  There is a wooden chest with signage to place your items in. Arizona Humane Society’s Pet of the Week

Sarge is a handsome 6-year-old German Shepherd mix who was rescued from Phoenix's brutal heat earlier this summer. He had suffered severely burned paw pads after running on the hot asphalt as a stray. Luckily, he was rescued by one of the Arizona Humane Society's Emergency Animal Medical Technicians. Once he was in our care, the veterinary team in AHS' trauma hospital treated his burns and bandaged his injured paws. Now, Sarge is back on his feet and ready for a new home! He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once Sarge knows he can trust you, you'll have a loyal friend for life. Treats are the way to this pup's heart. Peanut Butter is his absolute favorite thing! Sarge is waiting to meet his new family at AHS' South Mountain Campus. Come meet him today!
