COMMUNITY UPDATES

Bruno Mars Tribute Show Rescheduled Due to Illness

The Bruno Mars Tribute Show was moved from today (Thursday, Jan 13th) to May 4th at Oakwood Country Club due to a key member of the band not being available at the last minute. Those holding existing tickets for the concert should hold on to those tickets, as they will be honored at the May 4th show. Same time and same seats. Questions? Please email Karen.

Stay Alert

A few unfortunate incidents have occurred in the Sun Lakes area recently. Here are some tips for when you are out and about:

  • Be aware of your surroundings. When you know your surroundings, you can take better note of things that are out of the ordinary. Consider whether you need to tell someone or react. Don’t presume changes in your surroundings are innocent or fine (be just a little paranoid). Just because you are in your neighborhood does not mean you can let your guard down.
  • Play the "what if" game. As you're travelling to the store, ask yourself, if that car pulls out in front of you... where will you go? What if that truck doesn’t stop at its red light? Do you have time to stop, someplace to go? You probably already do this, if you practice defensive driving.
  • Be prepared. Mentally prepare yourself, believe and know that you can protect yourself and your family if you need to. Leave yourself enough room to maneuver away. Does it matter if the light is red? What something was happening to the person in the car next to you? What would you do? By being mentally prepared, you can have the upper hand. Your aggressor will be surprised at your response, take advantage of that. But if you are taken by surprise, your ability to respond appropriately and adequately is limited. This does not mean to be provocative and ask for a confrontation; just be prepared and know how to respond if you are confronted.
  • Don’t make yourself vulnerable. Trust your gut. If something doesn’t seem right, maybe you can do your task later, or maybe you need to tell someone or call the police.

Finally, a message from Craig Lloyd, Commander of Sun Lakes' Sherriff's Posse: "To all residents, please be vigilant and aware of your surroundings in parking areas, and keep your eyes on your surroundings and not your phones. If something happens to you, quickly move towards other people in a safe manner. Your safety is all that matters."

FACE Fund Vote Continues

We are currently at 75% of the community casting their vote. Historically, we require 83-85% of the community to vote to obtain the 50% + 1 needed for an initiative to pass or fail.

  • This vote would enable the Facilities and Community Enhancement fund (FACE) to be increased to 2 times the current amount.
  • It could also be decreased back to equal the annual assessment by a HOA Board of Directors vote, should the housing market change.
  • The amount could go greater than 2 times the HOA annual assessment with a community vote.
  • A homeowner owning a lot as of January 1, 2022 would have a one time exemption if they purchased another home in IronOaks. Currently only homeowners owning prior to January 1, 2012 receive this one time exemption.

Remember, the FACE fund fee is what new homeowners contribute when buying a home here in IronOaks.

If you don’t believe you have voted, please email the Elections team for your credentials. You may also obtain a paper ballot at the Oakwood Concierge desk Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Fitness Center Leak Resulting in Mold

Recently we discovered mold growth in one of the supply closets located in our Fitness Center. This mold growth is the direct result of a drainage leak. Please be aware that the affected area is contained and does not pose a threat to anyone occupying the Fitness Center for any amount of time. We have consulted with a remediation company and are developing a plan to safely remove the mold and repair all damages. At this time, we do not anticipate the remediation work to affect hours of operation. We will do all we can to minimize the impact on our residents, and will keep everyone updated should scheduling expectations change. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we tackle this issue.

Gate Closures (Updated)

Please be advised that each gate will be completely inaccessible for the duration of the replacement work, both on and off hours. Therefore, it is highly suggested that you prepare in advance for these closures as they affect your travel in and out of the community.

Golfers, during the closures of the Halley and Champagne Gates, we will have security personnel in place at both locations [during normal business hours] to assist with golfer traffic.

Halley Gate (#3 on Map) - Week of January 17th
- The Halley Gate will have its scheduled maintenance next Wednesday, January 19th, and Thursday, January 20th. Patrol will be at the location to maintain order and manage the flow of traffic.  One lane will always be open, and this only affects the entry side of the gate. Exiting traffic will NOT be impacted. As a resident, if you can use another gate to enter the Ironwood community, it would help to alleviate some of the congestion.
Champagne Gate (#10 on Map) - Week of January 24th
Oakwood Gate (#9 on Map) - Week of January 31st
N. Dobson Gate (#8 on Map) - Week of February 7th

Holiday Decorations Reminder

All holiday decorations need to be taken down by Saturday, January 15, 2022. Thank you for your cooperation.

2022 HOA Dues Assessments

You should have received your statement either by mail or in your email. Statements will indicate the new amount of $1,168.50 (half of $2,337). If you have set up auto pay, your invoice will indicate there is nothing due and no further action is required.

You may also pay by dropping off a check at any of the secured lock boxes located at the Oakwood Clubhouse, the drive-up box in the Arts & Crafts parking lot, or lock boxes located at the Oakwood & Ironwood Golf Shops, the Fitness Center East door, or outside the Accounting office.

Please note, checks cannot be postdated, as Accounting cannot hold checks. Checks returned for insufficient funds will incur a $30 fee.

Golf Sure Pay 2022

Residents participating or wishing to participate in the Golf Sure Pay program should go to the Oakwood Golf Shop beginning Friday, January 14th. The following items will be needed:

  • A Resident Agreement Form (you can download it here to print and fill out, or they will be provided at the Golf Shop).
  • A voided check
  • A form of payment for the minimum initial payment of 10% (credit cards will incur a 2.5% processing fee).  Checks will incur a $1 per transaction service fee.

Once processed, participants will have 4 equal payments drafted on February 2nd, March 2nd, April 4th, and May 3rd, 2022.

New Office System

Another community landmark! We have converted our systems so our office system and website "communicate." While this conversion has been completed, we are still finalizing some details, including the payment system. If you're needing to pay for your HOA dues or your amenity fees and would like to write a check, you may do so by making the check out to "IronOaks at Sun Lakes" and dropping it off at any of the payment drop boxes locations:

  • Fitness
  • Oakwood and Ironwood Golf
  • Oakwood Concierge
  • The Accounting office
  • The drive-up box in the parking lot of the Arts & Crafts building

Please make sure your check includes your last name, and your account number, which can be found on the slip from the invoice.

If you're paying by credit card, you will need to see the Accounting Office to process.

Shortly, you will be able to process these payments yourself on the website. We're excited to share this new, easy process with our residents. If you haven’t logged in before and need your login credentials, please email Communications to request them.

Thinking of Renting Out Your Home?

No problem! But please be sure to complete an IronOaks Rental Agreement, as there are community requirements in place that must be adhered to. This document is available online at IronOaksAZ.com (Click into "Departments & Forms," then "Patrol," then scroll down to "Rental Policy").

For those Residents who have rented out their homes in the past, please be advised that the Rental Policy has been updated for 2022, so it's important that the new form is filled out and submitted to the Patrol Office.

All Rental Agreements must be submitted, reviewed, and accepted by Management prior to the commencement of the lease term. Please contact the Patrol department if you have any questions.

Overnight Parking Permit

Please be reminded that street parking is prohibited overnight, unless a current Parking Permit is displayed on a vehicle's windshield. Parking permits are free of charge, and can be obtained in advance by contacting the Patrol Department. Should you find yourself prepping your sofa for an unplanned overnight guest, you can obtain an Overnight Parking Permit last minute by contacting our Mobile Patrol officer on duty at 480.797.6508.

What Does Security Mean to You?

We’re looking into making major enhancements to IronOaks Security, from more tailored access controls at our gate entrances and amenities to a state-of-the-art surveillance system that can find the keys you misplaced while dining in Stone & Barrel last week!

When choosing to live in a gated community, you set expectations for your sense of security. We want to ensure that we're doing our best to help you feel at ease here at IronOaks. Please be on the lookout for a Resident Survey circulated in the coming weeks, and be sure to give us your feedback on what’s most important to you.

Vacation Watch

The Patrol Department offers a security assistance service to Owners who will be away from their homes for an extended period. This service is called "Vacation Watch," and if you’re interested in learning more about it, additional information is a phone call away. Please contact the Patrol Office by phone at 480.802.4937 or stop in and see one of the Patrol Administrators for further assistance.

Architecture and Landscape Guidelines

IronOaks Homeowners who anticipate making additions, changes, modifications, or restorations to the exterior of their home, lot, and/or landscape should be sure to reference the Architecture and Landscape Guidelines before contracting and/or committing to a project work scope. In many cases, securing a Permit is a requirement. Please contact the Architecture & Landscape Department at 480.802.2776 for further information.

Luminaria Walk Donation Update

The 17th annual Diamond Lake Luminaria Walk and Food Donation Drive was a huge success! Sun Lakes residents and their families supported our efforts to help restock AZCEND’s (our local food bank) shelves, and you did not disappoint!

The totals were:

  • 6,129 lbs. of nonperishable food items
  • $4,458 monetary donations (online, checks, cash)

...for a grand total of 8,218 meals for those families in need!

AZCEND’s Sarah Amstutz (our coordinator) was so grateful, and said we provided the most donations during the holiday drives!

Unit 36C’s efforts to decorate and provide a festive Luminaria weekend brought in so many people! They enjoyed themselves immensely, walking around Diamond Lake viewing the decorations, the Luminaries, and enjoying the entertainment. Residents and visitors were so generous with their food and monetary donations. What a lovely weekend it was!

A special thank you to Fred Smith (keyboard) and Janae Dunn (acoustic guitar and singer) for volunteering their time both evenings. They made this event extra special with their talents and entertainment. We also want to recognize the support we received from IronOaks at Sun Lakes HOA.

Unit 36C thanks you all for your generous support again this year. See you next year for our 18th annual Luminaria Walk and Food Donation Drive!
